Spoiler warning: This article contains spoilers for Agatha: Coven of Chaos Episode 6 and WandaVision.
With Agatha: Coven of Chaos continuing to captivate fans, Episode 6 delivered a surprising twist: the return of Evan Peters’ Ralph Bohner. His reappearance, which stirred up the fanbase, is both hilarious and thought-provoking, especially when considering his connection to WandaVision. Ralph’s involvement in Agatha’s storyline has left viewers with lingering questions, particularly regarding his past and his darkly humorous confession about poisoning Billy and Tommy’s dog, Sparky.
But the episode raises two major questions I’ve been pondering since seeing Ralph’s return. Let’s dive into them.
Ralph Bohner’s Witness Protection Storyline: Ignored or Just Bad at Hiding?
One of the unresolved plot points from WandaVision was the mystery of the missing witness protection person that brought FBI Agent Jimmy Woo to Westview in the first place. While WandaVision never fully clarified this detail, a deleted scene from the Blu-ray release finally addressed it, revealing that Ralph Bohner was indeed the missing witness under protection, monitored by an ankle bracelet.
However, Agatha All Along throws this explanation into question. The episode features Ralph donning a “Bohner Household Reunion” shirt, which Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha uses to poke fun at Ralph’s identity. This comical costume choice suggests that “Ralph Bohner” may have been his actual name all along, debunking the idea that it was just a cover for witness protection.
If that’s true, then it seems Ralph was terrible at maintaining a low profile. His headshots, proudly displayed around his home, contradict the notion of him hiding from the public. And the fact that bills and other official documents are still addressed to “Ralph Bohner” means he didn’t even try to obscure his identity.
So, does this mean Ralph was bad at witness protection, or was it simply a joke that WandaVision played on us all along? It seems more likely that Ralph’s “witness protection” storyline was quietly discarded, leaving the character free to remain Ralph Bohner—a man who’s just trying (and failing) to keep a low profile in the MCU.
Was Ralph’s Dog-Poisoning Confession in WandaVision Darker Than We Thought?
In WandaVision, Ralph Bohner confessed to poisoning Sparky, Billy, and Tommy’s dog, which at the time seemed like a throwaway gag. However, in Agatha All Along, Ralph hints at something much darker when he casually drops a line about what happened to the dog.
During a garage conversation with Billy, Ralph cryptically warns him, saying, “You don’t want to go sniffing around there. You’ll end up buried with that dog—or worse!” While this line is played for laughs, it’s unsettling considering Ralph’s previous admission about killing Sparky.
The real twist here might be that Ralph wasn’t just joking. What if Sparky’s fate was tied to Ralph’s involvement with Agatha? After all, Agatha herself manipulated events throughout WandaVision, and Sparky’s death played into the chaos she was orchestrating in Westview. Could Ralph have been an unwitting pawn in her schemes, or is he just more sinister than we first thought?
Additionally, Sparky’s disappearance at the end of WandaVision left many wondering what happened to the dog’s body. Given the fact that Billy and Tommy were magical constructs created within the Hex, could Sparky have been a part of the same illusion? If so, what became of him once the Hex fell?
Ralph’s disturbing comment may suggest that Sparky’s fate wasn’t as clean-cut as we thought. Perhaps Agatha or Ralph played a darker role in the dog’s demise, leaving fans to wonder about the true extent of Ralph’s involvement in the darker side of Westview.
What Does Ralph Bohner’s Return Mean for the MCU?
Ralph Bohner’s reappearance in Agatha All Along may seem like comic relief, but it also highlights Marvel’s willingness to play with characters and their backstories. Ralph’s role in witness protection (or lack thereof) might have been brushed aside, but his presence raises intriguing possibilities for the future of the MCU.
Could we see more of Ralph in upcoming Young Avengers projects? Or will his character remain a humorous footnote in Agatha’s story? Either way, Evan Peters’ comedic timing and layered performance keep Ralph Bohner a memorable part of the MCU, no matter how ridiculous his backstory may be.
As fans continue to speculate about Ralph’s return and the lingering questions around his character, we can’t help but anticipate what’s next for him and how he might tie into the larger Marvel universe. Will he finally get a shot at acting stardom, or will he remain caught in the chaos that seems to follow him?
For now, we can only enjoy Agatha All Along and wait to see what Marvel has in store for one of its most confusing (but entertaining) characters.
