It’s official! Brendan Gleeson has been confirmed to star in Amazon’s upcoming Spider-Man Noir series, which is set to be a thrilling new addition to the Spider-Man universe. Gleeson, fresh off his critically acclaimed performances in The Banshees of Inisherin and Mr. Mercedes, will join an already impressive cast that includes Nicolas Cage as the lead. Cage, playing a down-on-his-luck private investigator in 1930s New York, will be joined by Gleeson in what sources believe to be the role of the main villain.
The show, now titled Spider-Noir, will bring back Cage’s gritty take on the iconic character. The series, produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, is one of the latest Marvel-inspired projects under Sony’s control. It follows the story of an aging private investigator grappling with his past as the city’s one and only superhero.
Joining the stellar lineup are actors Lamorne Morris, Abraham Popoola, and Li Jun Li, rounding out a diverse cast of talent. Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot serve as co-showrunners and executive producers, with the creative guidance of Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal—key figures behind the Into the Spider-Verse success.
Directed by Harry Bradbeer (Fleabag), who will helm the first two episodes, the show promises to deliver a dark, moody take on the Spider-Man universe, mixing noir detective tropes with superhero action. Gleeson’s role as the villain remains under wraps, but his character is expected to be a formidable presence in the story.
Fans can expect Spider-Noir to debut on MGM+’s linear channel before launching globally on Amazon Prime Video.
