In a recent interview with Variety, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, the star of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, shared exciting details about his role as The Thing in the highly anticipated MCU reboot. Speaking at the 2024 Emmy Awards, the actor discussed his transformation into Ben Grimm, revealing that he’s been working extensively with motion capture technology.
“For maximum-data facial capture, I have to be clean-shaven,” he explained. Moss-Bachrach also mentioned that while he’s six weeks into production, he’s only seen “crude renderings” of his character, but he’s eager to witness the final product. “There are hundreds of amazing animators working on it,” he added.
The actor praised his co-stars, including Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm), and Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards), calling them a “great-looking crowd” with “beautiful hearts.” He also shared a touching story about receiving flowers and champagne from his fellow cast members, reflecting the close bond they’ve formed during filming.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps, directed by Matt Shakman, is set to hit theaters on July 25, 2025, with an all-star cast that also includes Ralph Ineson as Galactus and Julia Garner as Silver Surfer. Fans can expect a mix of motion capture and CG to bring The Thing to life in what promises to be a thrilling entry into the MCU.
